Siena is well connected by rail to both Rome and Florence.

From Rome there are many connections in about three hours with change in Chiusi or Grosseto.

From Florence there are various direct routes that last 1.5-2 hours, in other cases with change at Empoli.

For timetables, consult the Trenitalia website (http://www.trenitalia.com).

Alternatively, there are numerous bus companies that make connections both with small towns in Tuscany and with major Italian cities.

BY PLANE

The Florence airport "Amerigo Vespucci" (FLR) provides scheduled connections to all major Italian airports and 13 European destinations.

From the airport there is a direct coach service to Siena operated by Train (for info and timetables +39 0577 204111 or http://www.trainspa.it) or by train from the Florence S.M. Novella.

The "Galileo Galilei" Pisa Airport (PSA) is however the most important in Tuscany: it connects the city with all the major Italian and European destinations. Pisa is connected to Siena by numerous trains (journey time approximately two hours) with change in Empoli.
